The best beauty products for our recent heatwave

product review

I don’t know about you guys but this heat is too much for me. I feel like I am slowly melting, my inner core is melting. Everything is melting. But one thing that doesn’t need to have a meltdown is your beauty routine.

Just recently I’ve been reviewing a lot of skincare products for ReallyRee, and coincidentally many of them have been natural products. I am fast becoming an advocate for nature. So the latest is Urban Veda and I just thought this purifying skin wash and polish will be perfect in this weather. The tee tree and mint makes them ultra refreshing, and they decongest the skin.

I also love the Hawaiian tropic dry oil, it really makes me feel like it helps accelerate the tanning process (although the spf deffo isn’t high enough for this weather, I tend to layer this with sun cream). It’s so important to remember to wear protection – just because we’re in England doesn’t mean we won’t burn. This oil is relative cheap and moisturising, plus it smells like coconut & guava!

Carmex has always been one of my faves when it comes to lipcare, I suffer from chapped lips and the hot weather can make this worse. Their lip balms are so affordable and seem to last forever. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a carmex pot?

Make sure if you wear any make up or lip balms that they also contain spf. Burned swollen lips will not be attractive.**(Not a cheap alternative to lip fillers)**

Happy tanning guys!

Primark mermaid glow highlighter – a cult product for £3.50

product review

I urge you one and all to stop wasting your money on expensive highlighters! I know the struggle; they look so attractive and shiny, but this highlighter from Primark ticks all the boxes. It ensures that you look like a real life mermaid, if ever there was one!

Full review

Firstly, it is only £3.50, so not really a huge investment. The highlighter also comes in other colours, should you not prefer a shiny white mermaid metallic look.

It is ultra pigmented! In comparison to my Urban Decay highlighter (I have the powder highlighter in ‘Sin’), I can’t say there is much difference in quality. The Primark highlighter has longevity, I have been wearing it for around two weeks now; and everyday it stays put for the entire day. I know this because on my way home from work, I happened to just catch my reflection in glass and my cheeks were shining to the high heavens. Of course I smiled to myself.

The next time you visit Primark be sure to grab one of these – if there’s any left. Sure, the packaging is rather basic maybe compared to more expensive highlighters. But you know what, I like it. It’s simplistic and it does the job, pretty darn well may I add.

[Perhaps not the best pic to show off the highlight, but it’s there glowing away if you look close enough]
[…Andddd swatch 😍, you can really see the high pigmentation here]

2017 – Contouring for dummies

top tips

Seeing as I spent the most part of 2016 drawing on cheekbones I don’t really have; I thought why not share my fake cheekbone techniques with you all for the new year. Because even the chubbiest of faces can look defined with the correct make up skills!

My contour is simple. Recently I have only been using two make up products to create either a natural, or more exaggerated contour. Depending on mood and ocassion. (But still contour everyday, eff the haters)

What you need & the technique:

NYX wonderstick contour stick is a godsend for me. It has a light and dark side – it’s perfect for highlighting (creating) and hiding.

You also need a highlighter – I prefer a stick one (at the moment I’m using Revlon), but liquid highlighter can give a more intense effect. If your going for that ‘highlight on fleek’ look. If you want the world and his wife to know you are wearing highlighter – and of course there’s nothing wrong with that. Hell, you aren’t going to spend £30 plus on a highlighter to hide it.

The technique:

Now this is slightly more complex to explain but I shall try anyway.

So depending on which parts of your face you want to contour (for me it’s my nose which I despise, my nose is more evil than Donald trump not even joking – uglier as well).

Use the lighter side of the contour stick for any concealing you wish to do.

The darker side can be used to create shadow…. and of course cheekbones. The trick with creating cheekbones is to draw them in the desired area, and bake. Allow the make up to set for a few minutes. (This routine is as holy as baking a cake TBH). When the make up has baked for an appropriate amount of time, blend in (not too hard or you’ll blend off your cheekbones). Blend until the line looks natural, but still gives definition. You can also do this around your blusher if you wish, it creates a striking look.

Happy contouring in 2017 ✨ hope y’all create some killer cheekbones

Simply the best

product review

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet. Blusher is one of those items which you use daily. But when it starts to break up and crumble into the distance and you are forced to buy another. It’s almost like a chore? No-one enjoys buying blusher. It’s like, will they still sell this shade? Do I have to spend £15 on blusher? Can’t I just use a pink eyeshadow instead?

But blusher actually completes your look, and if applied correctly can also be used for contouring. So take blusher for granted no more people.

On one of my silly splurges (they seem to happen only too often), I purchased Charlotte Tilburys cheek to chic blusher in ‘love is the drug’. Now, at £30 a pop you may have thought I’ve lost my marbles. But, it’s soooooo pretty – the packaging alone convinced me to buy it.

Here are three simple reasons why you need this blusher in your life right now:

1. Longevity

At first I hated the hell out of this product, and I really thought I had wasted my money. I was even tempted to write the most rubbish, sarcastic review of it. But I soon realised, you have to know how to apply it. It’s very very VERY concentrated and pigmented, and this means if you get a little brush happy with your blusher brush. You will look like a clown. (Maybe not as bad as the ones that have been hiding in bushes with knives, but nevertheless quite clownified). The trick is to apply sparingly and dust excess blusher off of the brush before applying to your cheeks. The upside of this is that it lasts months upon months. I have had mine 4 months already, and it’s still like new. Brilliant!

2. Don’t judge a book by its cover

Well I definetly judged this blusher by its cover, and boyyyy was I right to do so. It looks so stunning, it comes with a lovely compact mirror – great for touch ups. A real compliment to your dressing table. I feel like a real life princess using this blusher 💅🏻

3. Multi purpose

Believe it or not this blusher is multi purpose. Firstly, it has two shades of blusher – which can be used for contouring. Secondly it is so pigmented that it can also be used as an eyeshadow (both shades). You can even add it to Vaseline on your lips for a rosy glow. The compact mirror is also (as mentioned above) handy to keep in your bag for hourly touch ups (maybe not hourly I’m not that vain am I??)

So, considering it’s nearly… erm well hump day. Why not treat yourself?

Fallin’ around: four beauty must-haves for Autumn

top tips

The transition from Summer to Autumn can be somewhat awkward, especially in England. You can easily get caught off guard travelling without an umbrella, (rookie error), fooled by the warm-ish sun you observed throughout the day and ending the day looking like a drowned rat. Let’s face it, we never know what are we going to encounter with the weather in this country. But don’t let your make-up be as inconsistent as the weather.

autumn-cosmeticsHere are my 4 beauty essentials to help you through the colder season, amazingly all under £25:

  1. Mac matte lipstick in Russian Red, £15.50

This deep red shade is perfect for the winter months, it allows you to channel your inner Russian goddess. Frosty, matte, with plenty of colour. Best suited with natural eyebrows, lined eyes, and a natural base on your face.

2. Urban Decay make-up setting spray in Oil Control, £22

Although I must admit before fully committing myself to buying the full size version, I purchased the travel size bottle which is £9. I am far from disappointed. This spray will help your make-up fight the elements, and by the end of the day you’ll still look like the same person, instead of a melting greasy mess that resembles a kebab shop worker. Can be used everyday, and especially handy for nights out.

3. Too Faced Better Than Sex waterproof mascara, £19

I will start by shamelessly bursting everyone’s bubble, and stating that this mascara does not live up to it’s name. However, this waterproof version of the beauty industries favourite mascara is brilliant for showery, wet weather. This mascara is one that you need to build up, it’s quite thin and light – but looks great on your dressing table, and is worth buying purely to see your boyfriends reaction when he clocks the name on the mascara tube. (Would be perfect with the Russian Red lipstick, for natural lashes and a bold lip for Autumn).

4. Urban Decay moondust eyeshadow in Space Cowboy, £14

This picture does not do justice for this amazing eye-shadow. It is more pigmented than a Mac lipstick, and believe me they are like paint. The moon dust eye shadows literally look like moon dust; they are sparkly and make you feel like a princess. Gone are the days of trying to use eyelash glue to stick glitter to your eyes. No No Hun, this is pigmented as ever and so so easy to apply. Glide gently over eyes for a natural day look, or compliment with darker shades to create a beautiful smoky eye.

That’s so hot: best of summer 16

product review

Even if this summer in England was a complete wash-out (quite literally); there is still an intense need to compile favourite / much needed beauty products for summer. Who even needs an excuse to buy more?

  1. Serum me up baby

Chanel -Hydra beauty serum, £78 for 50ml

Let’s be honest buying and using Chanel products can make anyone feel like Audrey Hepburn. The epitome of class; this hydrating serum is a must-have. It smells divine, and it is multi-purpose. Can be used as a primer before make-up application, as a daily moisturiser or treatment for skin. Plus it looks great on your dressing table. (Yes I am that superficial).

Quick tip: Try to buy Chanel products at the duty free section at airports, I got this serum for around £45, which is almost half price.

2. Mattify me

NYX – Matte blotting paper, £3.50 for 50 sheets

NYXX is slowly becoming my favourite beauty brand. Such good value for money – and these blotting papers are a life saver. If, like me after 3 hours your make-up looks like you’ve been dipped in a chip fat fryer; then you need these blotting papers. They soak up excess oil without spoiling your contour, and they fit in your handbag. Cuuuuute.

3. Baby,baby

Maybelline – Baby skin instant pore eraser, £7.99 for 22ml

If the blotting papers aren’t adequate defence against major grease, I would recommend this primer. The trick to achieving a matte face (espesh in summer when humidity makes your face melt off like an Ikea candle), is attacking it from all angles. Prep is the best defence, and with this primer you’ll be as matte as matte can be.

4. Good enough to eat

Hawaiian Tropic – SPF 25 lipgloss in island berry, £6 for 20ml

This does actually smell good enough to eat. And it’s brilliant because it gives a seductive glossy finish to lips, and is intensely moisturising plus has SPF 25 to protect lips from harmful UV rays. If you are going abroad this summer to a country with a hot climate – don’t leave without this sexy (practical) gloss.

5. Milky

L’Occitane – Milk veil with almond proteins, £28 for 250ml

If there’s one thing summer does do – it can seriously dehydrate your skin. This milk veil is the perfect moisturising treat for skin, apply morning and night (after bathing is the best time). This will make you smell gorgeous, and your skin will be as smooth as silk. This milkshake will bring all the boys to your yard!

The miracle product you never knew you needed until now

As shown, the prep spray provides the quintessential base for flawless make-up

A vitamin prep spray!?!? Like, what even is that?

We’ve all heard of Urban Decay’s legendary make-up setting spray; the setting spray of all facial sprays. Supposedly lasts through 12 hour sessions of sex, probably last even through WW3. Hey – no matter what is going on externally, our faces must always be flawless right. *Regina George moment right thurrrrrr*

Honestly speaking, since I have had this vitamin prep spray from UD – it has changed not only my make-up regime – but my life. You apply it before your daily moisturiser, and it’s like a breathe of fresh air onto your mush. It closes pores, reduces redness and imperfections; but also, it feels so bloody refreshing. Imagine the rejuvenating feeling of splashing ice cold Evian on your face first thing in the morning, BUT with added vitamins to enhance your skin, and perfectly prep it for your make-up. Flawless!

Everyone needs it. Now, what are you waiting for?
