NYX beauty school dropout palette review and swatches

product review

Much like every make up obsessor I often sit and think which products I need next. Like, of course I NEED a new eyeshadow pallet to add to my already huge collection of about 20. Pssssh. My justification was that I decided to branch out to bright, pigmented colours. I wanted one palette with every colour – so that when I’m getting ready I don’t need to have a gazillion palettes surrounding me. It just gets messy and confusing. On my quest to find the perfect palette I came across NYX’ website. NYX is both amazing quality, and great prices.

The beauty school drop out palette also has a variety of blushes and lip colours. It’s currently on sale for Ā£22.50 which is an absolute steal!

From the swatches you can see how pigmented the eyeshadow colours are; fortunately for a larger palette the quality of the eyeshadows has not been compromised. The only problem is choosing which shade to use because there’s just so much choice and I’m so goddamn indecisive. Not to mention scared of leaving my comfort zone. Buying this was a real step outside my ordinary box, and I’m so grateful that I did that. If you never take chances in life you won’t ever discover anything new.

For the initial use I decided to experiment and go for a pink smoky eye, it was my first attempt to use any eyeshadow colours apart from nudes and blacks (nudes and black are life though) .

In conclusion I found the eyeshadows a great pleasure to use. It’s like being a candid kid at the candy shop, waiting to apprehensively, excitedly chose your pick n mix sweets šŸ˜

One tip I would suggest is to spritz your eyeshadow brush with setting spray and then apply. Gives an even more pigmented than usual colour, you will look like a walking rainbow. šŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆšŸŒˆ

Fallin’ around: four beauty must-haves for Autumn

top tips

The transition from Summer to Autumn can be somewhat awkward, especially in England. You can easily get caught off guard travelling without an umbrella, (rookie error), fooled by the warm-ish sun you observed throughout the day and ending the day looking like a drowned rat. Let’s face it, we never know what are we going to encounter with the weather in this country. But don’t let your make-up be as inconsistent as the weather.

autumn-cosmeticsHere are my 4 beauty essentials to help you through the colder season, amazingly all under Ā£25:

  1. Mac matte lipstick in Russian Red, Ā£15.50

This deep red shade is perfect for the winter months, it allows you to channel your inner Russian goddess. Frosty, matte, with plenty of colour. Best suited with natural eyebrows, lined eyes, and a natural base on your face.

2. Urban Decay make-up setting spray in Oil Control, Ā£22

Although I must admit before fully committing myself to buying the full size version, I purchased the travel size bottle which is Ā£9. I am far from disappointed. This spray will help your make-up fight the elements, and by the end of the day you’ll still look like the same person, instead of a melting greasy mess that resembles a kebab shop worker. Can be used everyday, and especially handy for nights out.

3. Too Faced Better Than Sex waterproof mascara, Ā£19

I will start by shamelessly bursting everyone’s bubble, and stating that this mascara does not live up to it’s name. However, this waterproof version of the beauty industries favourite mascara is brilliant for showery, wet weather. This mascara is one that you need to build up, it’s quite thin and light – but looks great on your dressing table, and is worth buying purely to see your boyfriends reaction when he clocks the name on the mascara tube. (Would be perfect with the Russian Red lipstick, for natural lashes and a bold lip for Autumn).

4. Urban Decay moondust eyeshadow in Space Cowboy, Ā£14

This picture does not do justice for this amazing eye-shadow. It is more pigmented than a Mac lipstick, and believe me they are like paint. The moon dust eye shadows literally look like moon dust; they are sparkly and make you feel like a princess. Gone are the days of trying to use eyelash glue to stick glitter to your eyes. No No Hun, this is pigmented as ever and so so easy to apply. Glide gently over eyes for a natural day look, or compliment with darker shades to create a beautiful smoky eye.

How to look good nakedĀ

product review

I could not resist buying this ‘la palette nude’. It’s so aesthetically pleasing; to the point that I almost considered never using it. Just putting it (open) on my dressing table and staring lovingly at it.

But, looks can be deceiving. I’ll be honest with you, I have high standards when it comes to Loreal. They are one of the high street cosmetic brands which I rate amongst the best. Now Ā£14.99 for a high street eyeshadow palette is slightly steep if you ask me – but it’s so pretty I couldn’t resist. I had high hopes for the palette.

Upon using it I quickly realised the brush provided is as helpful as a chocolate teapot; one end is so thick that it’s like applying blusher rather then eyeshadow. No precision at all. Then again this could come down to preference in application? The colours are – on the other hand, stunning and perfect shades for everyday use.

They are not, however as pigmented as I originally hoped for. But for a natural, everyday look this palette is perfect. And a perfect dupe for the naked palette.

Final rating – 7/10
