Throughout high school I was that chick who looked like she had splashed her dad’s creosote on her face. Yes I was perma tanned, and for some reason (still unknown to me) I thought I looked great. But in reality I was probably a streaky orange mess. I become reliant on fake tan to feel good about myself.
We are constantly told that a tan makes you look healthier, slimmer and more sexy. And that’s fine if you obtain a natural tan, or if you apply fake tan wanting a natural looking tan. I get it. Tans are beautiful. But we can’t all be naturally tanned.
The fundamental with keeping up appearances is that you become addicted. Two or three years ago I probably would not have left the house without tan on. You start to believe it’s your natural colour, your brain becomes numbed to your pretense.
About a year ago I decided I was going to embrace my natural colour. And I haven’t looked back since. I don’t mind if people tell me I’m really white, too pale or call me Casper.
I will be conforming to others beauty ideals no longer. This is my colour. I’m going to embrace it and love it.
On Wednesdays we wear pink 💅🏻
I’m so excited about Mary Kay’s new collection, the believe and wonder collection is based around inspiring positivity. What could be better than sweet pink products and positivity!?
They are a new collection of bath and body items, each collection contains a shower gel, body lotion and fragrance mist. I’ve got the paint the sky collection, they smell insanely sweet (which I love, all my go to fragrances are sickly sweet). There are notes of vanilla, velvet musk and pink grapefruit which provides a refreshing sweet smell perfect for summer. Because, in England we can’t guarantee the weather – but at least we can smell summery!
Instantaneously I have been reviewing their new lipstick range, gel semi-shine lipsticks. I have been using a nude and red shade (perfect for me because I’m way too into my comfort zone to branch out to any other colours). Also perfect for me because my lips get insanely dry using matte lipsticks, it literally drives me insane on a daily basis. Most of the time my exterior looks normal, in my mind my lips feel like an actual sand pit. It’s hard being me.
Gel has long been discovered for nails – but not so much for lips. So when I discovered these gel lipsticks I could not wait to try them out.
Swatches of ‘Naturally Buff’ & ‘Red Smoulder’
These lipsticks are legit my new go to. Whilst they maintain colour throughout the day – they are moisturising without being overly glossy. You don’t want to look like a 90’s rendition of Lil Kim after all…
These amazing lipsticks are available in 12 shades! Get yours now. 💋💅🏻💋💅🏻
Much like every make up obsessor I often sit and think which products I need next. Like, of course I NEED a new eyeshadow pallet to add to my already huge collection of about 20. Pssssh. My justification was that I decided to branch out to bright, pigmented colours. I wanted one palette with every colour – so that when I’m getting ready I don’t need to have a gazillion palettes surrounding me. It just gets messy and confusing. On my quest to find the perfect palette I came across NYX’ website. NYX is both amazing quality, and great prices.
The beauty school drop out palette also has a variety of blushes and lip colours. It’s currently on sale for £22.50 which is an absolute steal!
From the swatches you can see how pigmented the eyeshadow colours are; fortunately for a larger palette the quality of the eyeshadows has not been compromised. The only problem is choosing which shade to use because there’s just so much choice and I’m so goddamn indecisive. Not to mention scared of leaving my comfort zone. Buying this was a real step outside my ordinary box, and I’m so grateful that I did that. If you never take chances in life you won’t ever discover anything new.
For the initial use I decided to experiment and go for a pink smoky eye, it was my first attempt to use any eyeshadow colours apart from nudes and blacks (nudes and black are life though) .
In conclusion I found the eyeshadows a great pleasure to use. It’s like being a candid kid at the candy shop, waiting to apprehensively, excitedly chose your pick n mix sweets 😍
One tip I would suggest is to spritz your eyeshadow brush with setting spray and then apply. Gives an even more pigmented than usual colour, you will look like a walking rainbow. 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
Have a great Sunday guys!
So I’ve been using Verso’s anti pollution mist for around 1 week now; and to be honest nothing has changed. My skin is exactly the same as it was before. Ah I hear you cry, why are you still using it? It is not only about the visible differences, it’s not about improving skin texture. Ultimately it’s about protection.
As we are all aware pollution is at a dangerously high level, particularly in London. And not only can it affect our physical health, it can also cause premature aging.
Here’s why you should buy an anti pollution spray;
1. Plan ahead
So of course you won’t know right away if your skin is being protected, but think of the future. You don’t want damage to your skin – especially when given the choice to avoid it
2. It’s an investment
Some of the high end sprays can be quite pricey. But this is because the anti pollution sprays are still relatively new to the beauty scene, once they are mainstream, like anything they will be readily available in your local Superdrug for £10 and under. But it’s an investment in your skin, and you only get one skin after all
Pollution can also cause drying of the skin, so using the mist before or after make up application can protect against drying elements. Brilliant for summer and winter.
As a beauty reviewer you always have to try your utmost to be as honest as possible. And to be fair, I’m an understanding individual – it’s rare for me to write a bad review. I may mention some negative points, but I try to be as considerate as possible. But occasionally there are just some products you really do not get on with. And this week I have come across two. I decided I had to share with everyone so nobody else had to make the mistake of wasting their time and money! (Not to mention the dreams I was sold)
First up we have Superdrug’s make up revolution lip contour kit in ‘Reign‘. Granted the kit includes a lip liner and lipgloss, and it’s only £6. Amazing value I hear you say. Nope. Nah uh. Because I was completely mislead, firstly am I right in thinking the colour on the box shows a pinky nude tone? Well much to my surprise, when I applied the lip liner it was orange. Yes orange. Coral orange to be exact, I mean yes people have different skin tones so I know some shades can vary a little. But this was so far from nude I wanted to cry at my sheer disappointment. The consistency was something else as well, let me tell you – it was like superglue. So people, if you think of buying this lip kit, please do swatches beforehand. And use a lipgloss. Or carmex. Or WD40. Your going to need it.
Next awesome product of the month is this Vaseline stick (I don’t know how else to describe it). The only good thing about this is the added SPF. I brought this admittedly because it was cheap, at £2. However I swear to you, it does nothing. Gives no mousturisation whatsoever. I would be better off pouring a glass of water over my lips. And I invested because the good ole Vaseline pots always work, they aren’t the best lip balm in the world – but they do the job for the low price category. Honestly, do not bother buying this it’s god awful.
Continuing on from my last post, (no I promise I’m not being paid to promote the Deciem brand), I wanted to write about The Ordinary’s serum foundation and silicone primer.
The search for a perfect foundation is literally like trying to find a needle in a haystack; and believe me I have tried everything from Rimmel to Chanel. Before trying The Ordinary’s Serum Foundation I had given up. I was using a Dr Manuka BB cream which gives a light natural coverage, and I was rather content with that. But this foundation has completely changed the game. First of all it’s £5.70. It has an amazing amount of shades, catering for everyone. And the blend. Ahhhh the blend is something else. It doesn’t even look as if I’m wearing make up, it blends right into my skin. Any of the Deciem technicians can colour match you at their store (my shade is 1.2p with pink undertones for reference). It gives an absolutely flawless, natural finish.
I have been using the High Adherence Silicone Primer (£3.90!) along with the foundation, and they work so well together. You can wear it alone, or under make up. I know some bloggers have said it was too dewy for their liking, but I really like it. Unlike some other primers that claim to be ‘matte’, and then completely dry your skin out like a sponge – it’s moisturising but gives a nice naturally smooth texture to the skin.
Overall I would highly recommend these two products, they are stunning and amazingly cheap. Again, far from Ordinary.
I urge you one and all to stop wasting your money on expensive highlighters! I know the struggle; they look so attractive and shiny, but this highlighter from Primark ticks all the boxes. It ensures that you look like a real life mermaid, if ever there was one!
Firstly, it is only £3.50, so not really a huge investment. The highlighter also comes in other colours, should you not prefer a shiny white mermaid metallic look.
It is ultra pigmented! In comparison to my Urban Decay highlighter (I have the powder highlighter in ‘Sin’), I can’t say there is much difference in quality. The Primark highlighter has longevity, I have been wearing it for around two weeks now; and everyday it stays put for the entire day. I know this because on my way home from work, I happened to just catch my reflection in glass and my cheeks were shining to the high heavens. Of course I smiled to myself.
The next time you visit Primark be sure to grab one of these – if there’s any left. Sure, the packaging is rather basic maybe compared to more expensive highlighters. But you know what, I like it. It’s simplistic and it does the job, pretty darn well may I add.
[Perhaps not the best pic to show off the highlight, but it’s there glowing away if you look close enough]
[…Andddd swatch 😍, you can really see the high pigmentation here]
