Three reasons why you need an anti-pollution spray

product review, top tips

So I’ve been using Verso’s anti pollution mist for around 1 week now; and to be honest nothing has changed. My skin is exactly the same as it was before. Ah I hear you cry, why are you still using it? It is not only about the visible differences, it’s not about improving skin texture. Ultimately it’s about protection.

As we are all aware pollution is at a dangerously high level, particularly in London. And not only can it affect our physical health, it can also cause premature aging.

Here’s why you should buy an anti pollution spray;

1. Plan ahead

So of course you won’t know right away if your skin is being protected, but think of the future. You don’t want damage to your skin – especially when given the choice to avoid it

2. It’s an investment

Some of the high end sprays can be quite pricey. But this is because the anti pollution sprays are still relatively new to the beauty scene, once they are mainstream, like anything they will be readily available in your local Superdrug for £10 and under. But it’s an investment in your skin, and you only get one skin after all

3. Hydration

Pollution can also cause drying of the skin, so using the mist before or after make up application can protect against drying elements. Brilliant for summer and winter.

Deciem – far from Ordinary, AHA Peeling Solution review

product review

The word ‘Deciem’ actually means ten in Latin, and that is exactly what the brand initially wanted – to own an umbrella of ten different companies. Deciem is the company behind The Ordinary skincare range, an award winning, yet humbly acclaimed ‘ordinary’ skincare range.

After attending an event (an amazing event by all means) and talk between Deciem and CEO of http://www.reallyree.com, Anne Marie Lodge; I am now practically a brand ambassador. Let me take a brief moment to explain what The Ordinary is about.

The brand has a strong focus on ingredients. They utilise seemingly ‘normal’ ingredients which have been established as popular for use within skincare. Hyaluronic acid for example, a firm favourite for skincare brands for improving elasticity. However Deciem doesn’t believe in exploiting its customers, here’s where they are different. An ingredient like hyaluronic acid is pretty bog standard nowadays, and not particularly expensive to produce. Moreover, a similar product which would contain the ingredient produced by a high end brand would probably be three times (if not more) the price. The Ordinary range is all amazingly affordable, aesthetically pleasing – and in my eyes, anything other than Ordinary.

After attending the talk I decided to use and review the peeling solution facial peel, which is £6.30. Now, it is beetroot in colour and the same consistency as blood. But don’t let that put you off!

The peel used a lot of free acids, and so it an be abrasive for sensitive skin. It is advisable to leave on for 5 mins if you have sensitive skin, 10 if your hardcore. (See the scientific listing of ingredients below).

The peel promises to peel off dead skin in order to reveal newer fresh skin underneath. And it does just that. Admittedly it is very acidic and astringent, but if you don’t leave it on too long and use a good moisturiser afterwards, you should achieve amazing results. My skin is glowing from within after just one use. Considering the product is under £7, it feels like a high end spa treatment. How you could call this Ordinary, I can’t imagine!

I was fortunate enough to receive an entire goodie bag full of the skincare range. And I have a sneaking suspicion that upon use my skin is going to be healthier, and positively glowing. ✨✨✨

Sessions by Kate Hughes; amazing pop-up make-up master-classes

Events & launches

I attended the website launch for ”Sessions by Kate Hughes”. What could be better than a professional make-up master-class that strips make-up artistry back down to basics AND travels to you and your friends!? Sessions by Kate Hughes is just that. It’s a pop up make-up academy which runs over a five day duration and the complexity of make-up skills taught increases daily. All you need to bring along is (your face obvs) and your own brushes!

Kate Hughes has been an established MUA for the last 30 years, and so this business is a natural progression. Armed with lovely business partner Zo, they are destined to become an amazing success.

More about the sessions

Seeing as professional make-up is provided, what particular brands are used? Kate herself has commented, ‘’although we love the high end brands, we want the classes to be accessible and affordable, Lord and Berry is a favourite of ours, and we use a lot of Mac and NYX’’.

Anyone with any level of skill can attend the classes; make-up artistry is stripped down to basics and re-taught. Everything from foundation application to contouring is covered. Kate also mentioned her brand is launching a make-up brush range soon – all beauty obsessives keep your eyes peeled.

What also sets aside Kate’s lessons from conventional master-classes, is that additionally you are taught raw business skills. Including how to pursue a career in make-up artistry, how to network your business online, social media management and more.

Lush red velvet cup-cakes with glitter lips, so fetch

However, what really made this event outstanding, (aside from the amazing red velvet cup-cakes with glittery lips on and Prosecco on tap), was the refreshing atmosphere. When attending a beauty event, there is often a misconception that the professionals in this industry are catty/bitchy. This event was nothing like that – everyone who attended was so humble and lovely. It was fantastic to see bloggers / MUA’s/ journalists all sharing ideas and complimenting one another. It was a real promotion to girl power and entrepreneurship. An absolutely inspirational event with a really uplifting feel, if you ever need your make-up skills brushing up – highly recommend Kate and her wonderful business partner Zo.

Fallin’ around: four beauty must-haves for Autumn

top tips

The transition from Summer to Autumn can be somewhat awkward, especially in England. You can easily get caught off guard travelling without an umbrella, (rookie error), fooled by the warm-ish sun you observed throughout the day and ending the day looking like a drowned rat. Let’s face it, we never know what are we going to encounter with the weather in this country. But don’t let your make-up be as inconsistent as the weather.

autumn-cosmeticsHere are my 4 beauty essentials to help you through the colder season, amazingly all under £25:

  1. Mac matte lipstick in Russian Red, £15.50

This deep red shade is perfect for the winter months, it allows you to channel your inner Russian goddess. Frosty, matte, with plenty of colour. Best suited with natural eyebrows, lined eyes, and a natural base on your face.

2. Urban Decay make-up setting spray in Oil Control, £22

Although I must admit before fully committing myself to buying the full size version, I purchased the travel size bottle which is £9. I am far from disappointed. This spray will help your make-up fight the elements, and by the end of the day you’ll still look like the same person, instead of a melting greasy mess that resembles a kebab shop worker. Can be used everyday, and especially handy for nights out.

3. Too Faced Better Than Sex waterproof mascara, £19

I will start by shamelessly bursting everyone’s bubble, and stating that this mascara does not live up to it’s name. However, this waterproof version of the beauty industries favourite mascara is brilliant for showery, wet weather. This mascara is one that you need to build up, it’s quite thin and light – but looks great on your dressing table, and is worth buying purely to see your boyfriends reaction when he clocks the name on the mascara tube. (Would be perfect with the Russian Red lipstick, for natural lashes and a bold lip for Autumn).

4. Urban Decay moondust eyeshadow in Space Cowboy, £14

This picture does not do justice for this amazing eye-shadow. It is more pigmented than a Mac lipstick, and believe me they are like paint. The moon dust eye shadows literally look like moon dust; they are sparkly and make you feel like a princess. Gone are the days of trying to use eyelash glue to stick glitter to your eyes. No No Hun, this is pigmented as ever and so so easy to apply. Glide gently over eyes for a natural day look, or compliment with darker shades to create a beautiful smoky eye.
